Hi all

When I was born, I took my father's surname, although my parents weren't married. They separated shortly after and then my mother started using her maiden name as my surname. I understand that no steps were taken to formalise this. I continued to use this name until my mother married when I was 10.

So I have my birth certificate (father's surname) and my mother's marriage certificate which explains my current surname. But I have nothing formal to evidence the use of my mother's maiden name for around 9 years. All I can do is explain this in my LOE. Is this likely to be an issue?

Get a notarised affidavit which explains your situation clearly, and explain the same in your Letter of Explanation (LoE) pointing to the affidavit which will need to be included in the LoE pdf.

Discuss with an Immigration Lawyer and draft a well-versed LOE detailing the entire scenario so the Case Agent can get a better picture. Good luck.

Thanks. Given that I only used that name for around 8 years, and haven't used it since I was 10. Is there any reason to highlight this? I have my birth certificate, and my parent's marriage certificate, so I can evidence the change to my current name. There is no formal document I am aware of that would have been in my mother's maiden name. I was known as having my mother's maiden name at primary school but that is it.
