Hello

I need to know what impact will have on the status change
We went to Canada under PR in 2005 on Indian Passport and came back after spending 15 days
My wife,Son and Daughter extended their PR after living for almost three years now they have applied for citizenship in 2009/2010 which will take almost one year

in the meantime we got the British citizenship
can anyone tell please if its make any difference
or when ever we need to enter in Canada do we need to show our Indian passport or British(as on British you can enter without any visa or showing PR card)
PLEASE HELP!!!

It doesn't matter to Canada how many citizenships you have but as a PR, you need to identify yourself as you enter as a PR. Using your British passport that they don't know about and no PR card to enter as a tourist would be seen as misrepresentation.

Dear Leon

Thanks for your reply.

What i have understood from your answer that if we need to enter Canada we can use British Passport with PR card--Correct??? and it does not make any difference if in the past we have used any other passport to enter Canada with PR.?

Your PR card and any valid passport will do. When they scan your PR card and passport, they might ask you if you have an Indian passport too and then you can explain.

You should especially be concerned if border officers realize that India prohibits dual citizenship and will no longer consider you to be an Indian citizen if they discover you've acquired British citizenship.

edit: In fact, you are generally forbidden to have an Indian passport if you have any other passport.

Indian passport will be cancelled for all practical purposes as soon as you assume British citizenship because India does not allow dual citizenship. You can use your Brit passport, but always carry your cancelled Indian passport alongwith in case someone asks for an explanation
