Report the abuse to the Labor board of the province that you are working in and seek another employer. Also report the offence to HRSDC and they will black list your employer. This will prevent the employer from getting any more LMO's approved.

In any employer/employee relationship there should be trust to a certain level.
While i don't know the entire story of the lady Guiliana on the site here, you are only getting her side.
There are always 3 sides to a story- hers, employers and the truth. ewhich is usually a combination of both EE and ER.

How come there is no mention of room and board costs?

While you might have been asked to work from 7:30-7:30 - are there breaks? there was no mention.
are some of the hours working for her room and board? - there was no mention of that.

So $1200 might actually be reasonable based on other stipulations of the contract between then EE and ER which we are unaware of.

Torontogal, your question assumes the employer is charging a minimum of 1700/month for rent?!

Do the math....

12 hours a day is 60 hours a week
60 hours times $10 plus the 16 addtl hours in OT = $680/week
$680 a week times 4.3 weeks/month is $2924

Based on your assumption, 1200/month is lawful if rent for a 1 bedrm exceeds 1700/month! Torontogal, you can't be taken seriously here.

I'm beginning to wonder whether Guilianis former employer is disguising herself as some posters on this site...
