Hi

Background:

My wife is Canadian, I'm English and we're applying for a SPOUSE VISA. We got married 12 weeks ago and the forms are almost ready to send to the CIC.

Question

I have clear photocopies of my passport and birth certificate. Was I meant to have had certified by a lawyer? Its not very clear in the guides...

As long as your passport and birth certificate are printed in English language no need to do anything more than send photocopied versions of your passport and birth certificate. If it is in another language you will need a translated version (I think that would need to be certified) ;D

My husband's birth certificate and our marriage certificate are in Spanish. We have had them translated by a certified notary lawyer... Along with the original translation in English, can we send a copy of the original spanish certificates? Or is it necessary to send the original spanish certificates?

Not sure whether you have to send original marriage certificate or not (My wife sent ours) but the application check list says a photocopy of your birth certificate and photocopy of passports is suffice when sending out initial documents along with your notarised copies. Hopefully somebody could help if original marriage certificate is required. ;D

Thanks! I'd prefer not to send the original if it's not needed. Does anyone know if the original Spanish marriage certificate is required along with the original translation? Or is jsut a copy of the spanish marriage certificate acceptable along with the original translation?

I got my answer. Thank you!. Don't send original, only a copy along with the translation.

Thank you. Yes, I have that. Glad I don't have to also send the original.
