Certificate of Qualification

Hi,

I just got invited to apply for Permanent Residency and while reviewing my document checklist, I realized that I require a Certificate of Qualification. I thought this certificate was my degree as a graduate from a Canadian University. I also, didn't get any points from "Skills transferability Certificate of Qualification". Can I write a letter if explanation with my application or should I re-apply for express entry?

Did you apply under Federal Skilled Worker or Federal Skilled Trades? Certificates of Qualification only apply to the Federal Skilled Trades program. This certificate is not your Canadian university degree. It's a certificate for a trade like electrical, plumbing, etc. See below:

Thank you Scylla for your reply. I applied through Canadian Experienced Class and also met criteria for Federal skilled worker(probably because i indicated that I had a certificate of qualification).

I unfortunately realized what the certificate of qualification meant after ive been invited to apply for PR.

Should I redo my application or

Yes, you can, but many people think they have a CoQ when they do not meet the IRCC definition. It is here - and applies to all the EE programs, even though it names the FST program.

so to make it clear, certificate of qualification only applies to trade jobs not like health,nursing, accounting. and if someone has a CoQ in a trade then they can apply to any EE stream.

Express Entry basics... you have to meet 2 sets of requirements. First, you have to be eligible for FSW, CEC, or FST. COQ is irrelevant to FSW and CEC.

Second, you have to get enough points in your CRS score to earn an ITA. This applies to all programs. COQ will give CRS points.

It recognizes that many tradespeople will not have university degrees (fewer points for education), but will have nonetheless spent just as much time and energy to become qualified in their fields. It is a way of equalizing education vs apprenticeship career paths.
