Hi,

I'm a British citizen preparing to apply for PR through CEC. Which language test do I need to do and/or which is the best one to do? CELPIP or IELTS? What's the difference?

Thanks!

doesn't matter which one you do, they're both accepted. and as a british citizen you won't have issues doing either test. myself, german citizen, did the celpip and found it easy. it's cheaper as well. in the end it's up to the individual to choose. i liked that celpip can be done in one day and under 4 hours. it's all computer based and you can work at your own pace

Thank you! Also, is it right that it's valid for 2 years? I'm going to apply in June, but wanted to do it soon so that I can have everything prepared before hand

Correct. You can go ahead and complete the tests now.

Thank you :)

Another question, do birth certificate copies have to be an original copy (duplicate) or is a photocopy or scan acceptable?

If the documents are in english, which I think they are, then a simple xerox copy is all you need.

I opted for ielts (i'm British too) and found it easy enough. Tbh I'd go for whichever has the first available date.

I got three 9s and one 8.5 in my test, I'm sure you won't have any difficulties.

Anyone who says CELPIP is easy is probably modest about their English skills. It is arguably the better option if you're in Canada - it takes less time out of your day, and it may even be slightly cheaper.
