Hey buddy,
glad to find someone here :) i can see you are making a fast progress, wish you to get your PR sooner than you expect ;)

Wondering why didn't you apply once you finished your first year of postdoc experience?

Cheers

Okay, got it. hope you all the best.
I delayed submitting my application as i still need three months to complete one full year of experience with my current contract. So i guess this is happening in Jan :)

Hello PDFs, Good to see this thread, and good luck to all of you!
Well, I have a some confusion here, I believe you would be the right ones to answer, as in same boat.
I would be completing my 1st yr postdoc Exp. in March-2019, Just received 2 yrs extension contract letter from HR (i.e. from Mar-2019 to Feb-2021) with same condition (based upon funding and performance etc.). Besides mentioned standard things like Salary, Full-time Temporary, Duties (Confidential decided by President of Uni - Supervisor, there's nothing mentioned like (at-least one year after receiving PR), but it's quite obvious that term remains valid beyond 1 yr after receiving PR (i.e. by Feb, 2021). University is also submitting new LMIA Exemption application for 2 yrs, once I receive the Offer of Employment # from HR, I will apply for WP in coming week, so by March-19, I would have received the renewed WP, and thus on way to proceed for PR. That's the plan!
The question is either this letter will suffice to gain additional 50 points as valid job offer? As I intend to pursue PR application in March-19, once I have 1 yr inland exp. I will also get additional letter from HR certifying as Current Employment Letter (i.e. currently working etc.).
On forum, conflicting opinions about it, hence I am dubious, how you went through it?

Hello Jee,
we are absolutely in the same boat, i just need few months to get one year in my hands beside two years extension. I strongly believe your offer would be sufficient as a guarantee that you are having a job for one year upon getting your PR even it is not mentioned latterly in the offer.

lets share and communicate here for goods.
Just wondering why the university need to issue a new LMIA exemption as postdoc is already LMIA exempted by default?
on the other hand, i think maybe it will be better to have your new offer issued immediately after you complete your first year or near the end!
Best

Thanks thats comfort.
Well postdocs are exempted by default, but for every postdoc offer the employer i.e. universities have to get approval for LMIA exemption thru cic employment portal, as they share employment offer no. with us, which goes into our work permit application form. So this prestep they have to do every time for specific duration of contract.
In my case, they did initially for 1 yr now they need to redo for 2 yrs i.e for renewal. Its must as previous one is expiring along my WP.

2ndly about offer after PR, it is not possible in my scenario, as my TRV and WP both expiring in Jan,2019, instead contract at uni is concluding in March-19, as I joined in Mar-18, thats conclusion of 1 yr by Mar-19, only after that i wud be eligible for cec inland. But prior to that i must should have valid work permit i.e. the new one. So i am applying for renewal so that before march-19 i shud have new wp of 2 yrs to go fot pr route.....

so u sure about this 2 yrs extension letter would suffice to get 50 points in cec as valid of offer?

ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE.. in fact, HR will not satisfy mentioning the statement of " this offer will be valid for at least one year after getting the PR" it seems not relative to the offer. on the other hand, the CIC would clearly realize that you have two years contract in addition .. POSIITVE

Perfect, thats what I wanna hear, logically i was also inclined towards this argument, but on forum read conflicting resonses.
As you are right HR doesn't state that but they always love to mention 'based upon funding and performance' stuff, as it's how it is the postdoc posts...
Thanks man! Im relaxed now....still anyone who gone thru same route, would certify, that would b great to hear!
Will keep you all posted how it goes further...thanks

The same scenario is exactly fitting me here ..
Just confused with your mentioning the exempted LMIA? i guess the HR will apply for this exemption automatically without our following up as it is required by CIC. i never did for me first postdoc one year offer!!

Well HR does that if u r outland and u need WP to continue postdoc in canada.....so in ur case initially, did HR sent u offer letter and also the employment # something with A#####....as that goes in WP application form, and when u apply for WP, CIC matches ur profile with posted LMIA application from employer side....so HR does that for sure for evrry lmia exemption offer

Forgot to mention;
you may need three letters
1- your current offer letter
2- Supporting letter/experience letter from your manager
3- The new offer

i am working on these all
