Greetings everyone,

I had an issue I was hoping some knowledgeable soul could maybe help with.

I’m going to be submitting my CEC application at the beginning of March. After this is done, I am going to apply for the “Bridging Work Permit” for when my current work permit expires at the end of June.

The issue I have is this. I have lost my most recent T4 for the 2011 Tax Year (although I still have my Notice of Assessment for the 2011 Tax Year which I will submit in my application). I will receive my T4 for the 2012 tax year in a couple of weeks, so I was going to submit that along also, with a note saying “Please consider the application and I will be forwarding my NOA for the 2012 Tax Year onto you when I get receive it from CRA.”

So… One of the requirements for the Bridging Work Permit is that you have to have received some sort of confirmation from CIC to say that your CEC application is eligible for processing. I’m worried that they won’t send me this confirmation that I need, until I have forwarded my 2012 NOA onto them – which could take several months for me to receive back from the CRA.

I’m worried that all this is going to take too long and I will run out of time on my current work permit, before I receive the confirmation from the CIC to apply for the Bridging Work Permit?

Any thoughts????

I'd say you have good reason to worry, Even if you had all your paperwork, if you're not submitting your CEC application until March, it is possible that you won't receive the AOR before the expiration of your work permit. I would recommend that you look into asking your employer to apply for an LMO...

Really???

The CIC website, says the application takes 13 months, you mean they won't even acknowledge that they have my application within 4 months of me sending it???

I have seen people waiting for even 6 months to recieve AOR . IF lucky you might even get it in 2 months but its very unpredictable

Exactly. It is possible that you receive the AOR by then, but certainly not guaranteed.

Wow, that seems really harsh!

The eligibility requirements from the Bridging Work Permit say that you have to have a work permit expiring in the next 4 months, so even if I apply for the CEC 4 full months before the end of my current work permit, I might not receive my AOR in time to apply.

That sort of defeats the purpose of a 'bridging' work permit if you're only eligible to apply for it 2-6 months after you sent off your CEC application, the CEC application in it's entirety only takes 13 months according the CIC website!!!

I don't disagree, but if you think that is harsh, you still have the previous option - ask your employer to apply for an LMO :)
