No I used to be. I'm in Ontario now. For medicals, I never really looked into doing them upfront. You never know when or why they might reject you, so I don't want to risk spending $$ and having it go down the drain later on.

Thankfully, I finally landed a job (not ideal), so I can finally start recouping my expenses since I racked up since the layoff.

How's the job market for engineers in AB these days? I'd been thinking of moving back there and looking more seriously at EPCs and oil producers again...

Market is good for Engineers. Alberta opens new PR scheme where u just need a job as Engineer and u can apply for PR.
Your employer doesnot need to sponsor you. And it take 4-5 months to get PR status.

So Based on this market is good. But still there were some lay offs, but thats part of package

mine is the same officer, but my eligibility says "recommend passed" don't really know the different but there is no issue pointed out. I met both education and work experience requirements and he is satisfied with my paystubs, t4s and NOAs with school transcript, still waiting for MR. I feel like it is taking forever. maybe that VO is slow. it is still better than getting a rejection, fingers crossed : : :

I think we are on the same boat, with the same situation, the same vo... Btw, I went to double checked my status, it says recommended passed, not recommented pass... So I have no idea.., did they start your security check ? They might doing the random deep check for this vo case.... If u have any news please let me know

Just thinking, cant make people do it but wouldn't it be a great idea if everyone ordered GCMS notes. We could then start up a new spread sheet and input the VO number.

Hmmm, would there be any correlation in processing times?

For September applications, we actually have a google spreadsheet. I suppose we can add an additional column there for VO.

So I have no idea.., did they start your security check ? They might doing the random deep check for this vo case.... If u have any news please let me know

criminality = police clearance certificates(checking for criminal records) from all countries you've lived in for 6 months or more(including Canada)

security = done by CSIS - checking for terrorism, espionage, human trafficking, war crimes and crimes against humanity, hacking, etc. If there is any concern, they may arrange a CSIS interview. As I understand it, they present the results of all security checks to the Minister of Public Safety(I believe) for an opinion(risk to Canada/not a risk to Canada) and then it's relayed to CIC. You will also never know your results(it's classified information) but your GCMS notes will say when the process is complete.

i'm glad this thread didn't exist when I'd applied. or, i'd be so anxious with each email from CIC with a particular VO on it. i'd keep fearing that if i get "THAT" visa officer, i'd get rejected.
i think it will cause people a lot of stress...
