You do not necessarily need to apply for an Open Work Permit. There are requirements to be eligible to apply. Here they are:

You may be eligible for a bridging open work permit if:

• you’re already working in Canada,
• your work permit is due to expire within four months, and
• your paper application has been found complete or has received a positive eligibility assessment under one of the following:
• • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Caring for Children Class
  • Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class

In case if you are eligible, you can apply. But since it's not necessarily, it's your decision whether to apply or not.

Hi! Im sure this forum will be very helpful for me. I have just completed my 2 yrs last sept 13. Unfortunately i didnt gather all my requiremnts ahead of time specifically my ECA. ICAS hasnt provided my assessment yet. Hopefully it wont take too long. So to those who want to apply through the new pathway, it would be good to gather the requiremnts early on.

Anyone who applied to ICAS for their education credential assessment? I submitted mine last Oct 17. And their website says 25 weeks processing time. Im still hoping it wont take that long.

Honestly, I don't know about ICAS, but for WES it takes only 4 weeks. Usually even a little less.

Im not sure why i opted for icas instead of wes for my assessment. I hope to get some information from anyone out there who have tried ICAS. Im trying to decide if i should submit another application this time to a different agency (like WES)

As far as I know you have to send the original diploma to WES. Do you have one or you have sent your original diploma to ICAS? So if you have, you can send another application to another assessment organization, I think.

WES current processing time is only 7 business days. The requirements will depend on which country education was obtained. In my case, a photocopy of diploma was enough.

Thank you, tabznya, for your response. I made two assessments by WES, one this year and one last year, and both times the processing time was about 25 calendar days. May be it also depends on a country. Or may be they are not so busy at the moment and make assessment faster, I don't know.

When you received an email that says that you application has been completed, the next step - you received an interview appointment to finalize your application. This interview appointment was also sent via email or it was sent to you via usual post?

The old pathway takes about 4 years. You will not have advantages in your case. It's better to get your assessment (just wait some time) and then apply under the new pathway.
