since a uhaul is too expensive, we've decided to ditch some of our furniture and just rent a car to take from FL to canada to land. but i can't for the life of me find a car rental place that will let me rent from the states to canada! which is ridiculous - obviously there are SOME out there. has anyone used a good, reliable car rental service across the border?

I had used Hertz two years ago and drove to CT to Toronto to land. No issues at all. However, mine was a round trip.

I think that you will that most won't for a one way trip, as then someone has to retrieve the car. What usually happens is you rent a car and drop/switch it one of the rental locations at an office near the border for a Canadian licensed car, which can be dropped in Canada. Or you can rent the car, and then return it to the company just over the border.

if i returned it to a company over the border, i would have no way to get back across the border ::)

What city are you driving to? If it's a large city like Toronto (or the suburbs of a large city) - you may have some options.

For example, for Toronto - you could indicate the Buffalo airport as your rental car drop off location - and then take the Megabus from the Buffalo airport to downtown Toronto.

Maybe a little late for a response but why don't you just buy a cheapo rust bucket and then abandon it (at a wrecking yard)? You will probably
save a lot of $ doing this. Good Luck.

how much was it for the UHaul?
