Hello,

I'm getting a work permit to move to Edmonton for 18 months for a work assignement.
I'm currently living in the US and have a financed car (loan will end in 3 years).
If I understand correctly, with a work permit, I'll considered as a visitor so I don't need to import my car.

I have 2 questions:
- do I have to subscribe to a Canadian insurance on the top of my american insurance?
- what do they ask at the American border? Will they allow me to cross the border with my car?

Thanks,

Contact your insurer if they cover the insurance.

For those with the same questions.
You only have to get an insurance in Canada (you can cancel you American one). You need to get a Letter of experience from your US insurer and driver’s abstract from the US driver licence department.
If you want to cross the border with a vehicle you're still paying for, you need a letter from your laon agency.
