Hello,
I am going to Canada in Jan 2012 for two reasons
a) To get my Canadian PR cards
b) To get my H1 extension visa stamped in Canada. I am driving by my car from US into Canada. My questions are:
1. Can I drive into Canada as visitor but if I plan to settle there permanently, can I pay the import duties etc. later when I am in Canada and register with Canadian DMV, as I would not be able to come back to US if visa is not granted.
2. Should I tell this to Canadian Border authorities that I may stay in Canada permanently and will get my import duties etc, paid in a month's time while I am in Canada?
I will come back to US if I get the US visa stamped, but I would like to know the options in the worst case scenario if US visa is not granted and I have to stay permanenty in Canada.
Your experiences would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
