We are currently trying to import the car into Canada. We have completed the RIV inspection and Ontario safety inspection. Now, I went to get the insurance before registering the vehicle with service Ontario, but that is where the issue began. The insurance company cannot find the VIN in whatever system they use. They have now asked me to submit a ton of documentation (photos, purchase docs, import forms, inspection docs, etc etc) and they said it could take 6-7 business days because it will be a manual exception process. The 45 day clock for us to import the car ends in 7 Calendar days.
1. Is the 45 day clock to complete the registration or just complete the RIV import?
2. what happens if I miss the 45 day window because of this insurance delay?
3. Has anyone run into any similar issue, or if you have any advice to expedite?
