Hi
could anyone tell the expected CAP for the coming Jan'2013 FSW program as some are saying there will be limited in the number of applicants but won’t be limited to particular occupations – the likely outcome is an overall cap or limit to the number of applications that will be accepted for assessment by CIC.
And also quickly occupied professions from the FSW - 29 qualifying occupations.

thanks in advance

No official news from CIC yet that I am aware of regarding a cap, but a number of strong rumours and tweets.

We *think* that initially there will not be an occupation list and that there will be an overall cap. In which case such a cap (10,000 etc) will probably fill up completely in a matter of weeks, if not days.

There is talk of introducing an EOI (Expression of Interest) whereby applicants apply and their applications go into a pool. Only when an employer selects their application from the pool will the applicant become eligible.

There's been some talk on British Expats on this subject so you may find the following thread useful:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=775664&highlight=EOI

Quote from Jason Kenney:
"And finally, we intimated in the budget that we will be working towards something like a system based on what we call an ‘expression of interest,’ where applicants will eventually go into a large pool of qualified immigration applicants for Canada, giving us their consent to share their applications with employers and indeed provincial governments ,so that those employers can come into the pool of qualified immigrant applicants and do their international labour recruitment from within that pool."

Hi
thanks a lot for the info, so I guess it would be like the EOI for NZ, but in NZ instead of the employers...picking the applicants, points are marked with respective of the skills/edu/age/ etc etc and accordingly people are selected with maximum points.
But from recent news, its been said canada has high requirement of skilled migrants of about 300000 from 2014...so how would the 10k cap would fulfil ? the requirement.

I have no idea what the number will be - 10,000 was just a guess, but last year's FSW1 cap was 10,000.

FSW1 only makes up a certain % of the total immigrants that Canada will accept. Next year there will be a new tradesperson class within FSW, and there's PNP and a variety of other routes in addition to FSW. And then they still have a backlog inventory which they can use to top up to their visa quota for the year.

Limit on the number of applications to be processed per year

A maximum of 20,000 FSW applications, without an AEO, will be considered for processing each year.

Within the 20,000 cap, a maximum of 1,000 FSW applications per NOC code will be considered for processing each year. Total complete applications received since June 26, 2010

In calculating the caps, applications will be considered in order of the date they are received. Applications received on the same date will be considered for processing having regard to routine office procedures.

For the unique purpose of calculating the caps, the first year will begin on June 26, 2010, and end on June 30, 2011. Subsequent years will be calculated from July 1st to June 30th, unless otherwise indicated in a future MI.

Hi,

The above number was for old period (2010). As fas as my application is concerned, I was in the cap of 10,000 in the second half of 2010 and have landed 6 months ago.

Meanwhile, no official info about the issue except some rumors so far. Just be prepared for newly proposed point scale no matter what the cap will be.

Good luck.
