If English is the issue - it's not just Ireland. I have Canadian, American & British friends living in several countries in Europe who only speak English and don't speak the primary language of that country - and they do just fine. They mostly live in the big/main cities (Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Brussels,). Generally speaking, you can live and work in most major international cities with only English.
