Hello,

Hope you might be able to help.

Online under the sponsorship section 'Decision Made' was updated in March 2016.

In the last two weeks March 2017 the permanent resident application now says 'Decision Made'.

Neither of us have been contacted. Do any of you know how long it will take for us to be informed by email or mail?

Roughly how long until I am able to fly out to be with him?

What documents will I receive in the mail??

Any guidance is much appreciated.

PS - if it's any help our application was submitted in January 2016.

Many thanks xxx

Good god, that was slow!

You may be asked by email/myCIC message for a scan of your passport and new photos, or they may just send your COPR in the mail. Some people get this immediately, some take weeks, they seem to be done by batch.

Do you know why it took so long? That's more of an inland-app length of wait! Did you have a lot of requests for additional documents?

Thank you for the info.

We were asked to provide additional information, which we did. No interview etc. So I hope the decision made is good news.

Let's hope it's soon :))))) xxx

So I am assuming you are a Brit....

Not until you get your CoPR in the post. When in March did it go DM? I would guess CoPR should arrive in days or a couple of weeks at most. DO check the CoPR expiry date very carefully when it arrives, you may only have a few weeks to land before it expires

This is almost certainly a 'yes' decision (99.9%). You will receive your paper Confirmation of Permanent Residence document (CoPR). This is an very unimpressive single foolscap page. You will get two, one 'original' (the one with your photo stapled to it) and a copy (one without a photo).

It will also have wording on it that initially seems worrying when it says 'not valid for travel' - worry not! All this means is that you must travel on a valid passport as well.

Also remember that when you land, if you are also landing as a settler (i.e. not just landing to declare PR then return to the UK to sell up), you will need your customs lists of 'goods accompanying' and 'goods to follow'.

You would also be wise to get an ETA for Canada, which you can do now online for a few $. Although CIC say clearly that you don't need it if you have a CoPR, many airlines have been reported as refusing boarding and insisting you must have an ETA, Canadian passport, PRTD or PR Card (they don't seem to understand a CoPR!).

Some light reading for your here:

Mine (i.e. my wife's) only took 3 days, but it does seem to take 2 / 3 weeks sometimes to UK addresses (who knows why). Ours came in the normal post (i.e. no signature required). Any day now for you I would have thought!

We were quoted 12-14 months, so I am hoping any day I will receive the COPR letter.

I think it all sounds promising :)))))) xxxxxx
