It is that easy actually, if only people like you don't make it hard on others.

Don’t think that most would describe the asylum process as easy. On a daily basis on this forum people complain about how long they have been waiting, how the stress is affecting their health, ask questions about how to fill out certain forms or what should they do during interviews, asking when they can see their families since it has been years, etc. Many comment that they thought that it would be much easier and faster to claim asylum and that they thought Canada approves most asylum claimants. They also thought that once they arrived in Canada that they’d be provided with enough money (welfare) and housing to live comfortably. Many are not aware that they’ll often be put into shelters with other home less people in Canada. Especially for single people the shelter system is a scary and often unsafe place to be because many are struggling with addiction or other serious mental health issues. Many are dependent on food banks to get groceries. They still may get hungry but the food banks do allow access to hopefully some fruits and vegetables, if lucky some meet, etc. There are some lucky asylum claimants who get processed very quickly but they somehow but those are the very rare cases and seem to be dependent mostly on luck. If you arrive with significant savings or you have family and/or friends who are providing free housing initially that also makes the process more comfortable but many end up with significant stress as they burn through their savings while waiting to get a WP, waiting to get employment, etc.

Thank you for all your replies in this thread.

They may be viewed as discouraging to many, but they provide a realistic idea of how the asylum system works in Canada. No, it is not easy at all.
For anyone who can come using a normal immigration pathway, please do so.
You will continue your normal life while applying through express entry or other pathways, when all your papers are ready, you can come to Canada, you get your PR at the airport.

For anyone seeking asylum in Canada, it is taking so long, especially with the huge influx of refugees last year, it may be taking well above 2 years to get a hearing, add to this up to at least 2 more years to get your PR.

It is not easy, especially if you are leaving your family behind, it will take a long time for family reunification.

It is important to try to show the whole picture, not the bright side of the story only :(

As you said, this forum is full of stories of disappointment, so many people gave up and withdrew their refugee claim because they suffered mentally and psychologically, so many people ended up having a terrible life because they couldn't find a job, so many they couldn't even find a shelter.
