I think I'm gonna skip my trip in that case. I'm not putting myself through hours of wait time just to be unsure on what the end result will be.
Gonna try to write a strongly worded email to my federal MP later today as well. It is ridiculous that the passport process can take that long.
I like to give government workers a chance everytime I hear the gov employees are lazy stereotype but this isn't helping.
i don't think its Govt employees on the ground are the problem. Whoever i dealt with did their best.
Problem is with the higher level people who did the planning
Based on my understanding in the past 2 yrs since there was very less passport applications and renewals because of Covid they have allocated less resources to process passports this year. Some one higher up who did the planning should have anticipated pent up travel demand

hmm... not sure why its not listing even for express. Its fine as i dont have urgency and i will visit service canada anyway and it will be 2 weeks delay if i apply at service canada while comparing to passport canada.
I dont want to walkin.

This is frustrating! Every step is an endless wait!! My expected mail-out date is April 12th, until now I haven't received my passport.
I know I need to keep my faith high. Anybody in the same boat?

I'm waiting as well. I should have received the passport by last Tuesday (Apr 19, 2022). I'm curious if there are more people other than us two in the same situation.

I know! Prior to this, I checked my email every single day for oath ceremony invitation, afterwards I checked my mailbox every single day for citizenship certificate to arrive. Guess what? Now, I'm checking every single day for passports. I think I've already developed an OCD of checking and longing for mails/emails and getting miserable of not having one because of this journey. Seriously, I need to see someone to undo this habit after this LOL.

Yes, exactly. And to make things worse for me, I'll move next week, so I'll have to pay for Canada Post mail forwarding just because I haven't received the passport. But I'd rather pay for mail forwarding than have to call Service Canada and ask them to change my address.

A little update. I called them this morning (took me 156 attempts and then there were 118 calls ahead of me.) They said my application is there and under examination, so I talked to the very nice agent a bit and she told me that it is taking 7 weeks from when they get the application and when mail the passport out. She looked at mine and said I'm in week #5 so they'll probably mail my passport in about 2 weeks.

Passport Canada has NO appointments. If you have planned travel within 25 days (with concrete evidence) queue up at a passport office. Depending on your travel date, you can get your passport, even in a few hours. Charges apply for expedited service.

We are expecting shortly the citizenship certificate for a child (citizenship grant approved and told it's on its way).

But we have travel planned for early July, meaning that it's likely we will have ~eight weeks to get the passport done.

What's the suggested approach? We can show concrete evidence (tickets) for the travel but it's more than 25 days away.

Thanks in advance for suggestions, I hadn't focussed on this potentially being an issue.

More than 25 days, Passport Canada will not entertain you. There are no exceptions to this. Your only option in this case is Service Canada or mail in, but there are no guarantees on delivery date.

Within 25 days, if your plans are firm, I would suggest line up at PP Canada - you can even get them the same day. But remember, it is not for the faint hearted :)
Line up in Mississauga and Toronto starts the night prior. These two are a disaster. Even if you take a super efficient 5 minutes processing time per application, these two offices can at best process 100 applications each in a day assuming no one takes a coffee/tea/lunch/washroom break. If you are going to either of these places, plan for 8-10 hours. You can do that before they open or after they open. Chances of success are higher if you line up at midnight.

I’ve heard of Kitchener and St Catherine’s being better but can’t vouch for them.
