To answer your first question, follow this link if you need a visa: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit/visitors/quickcheck.htm

For your second question, you can always apply a travel document from any Canadian embassies outside the country to travel back to Canada, if you are not holding a valid permenant resident card.

Thank you.. my home country is Philippines, so I need a visa to visit New Zealand, if I applied a travel visa for NZ here in Philippines, is it still valid if I came from Canada, because I want to enter first Canada then visit NZ? or should I apply in Canada, my time is limited so processing my visit visa in Canada will not have enough time

Gee, not many blondes in the Philippines, are there?

To answer your question, this website tells you whether visas are required.

http://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_website_client.cgi?SpecData=1&VISA=&HEALTH=&page=both&NA=PH&AR=00&TR=US&DE=NZ&VT=CA&EM=CA&PASSTYPES=PASS&user=SKYWEB&subuser=SKYWEB1

It says that you need a US visa to transit the USA, which is true for all permanent residents, unless they get a Canadian passport. You may be able to find other routes not going through the USA, and thus avoid the need for a US transit visa.

The website also says you need a visa for New Zealand, but it says the same thing for a Canadian citizen, and I am almost 100% certain that I (as a Canadian passport holder) can get a 90-day visa just by showing up at the NZ border. I might have to pay a nominal sum for it (e.g. I must pay $5 for a visa to enter Panama, but it is done on arrival at the border), so maybe that is the visa referred to, ad not a time-consuming consular visa.

The point? There is some doubt whether you need to arrange a consular visa to NZ, so you should contact the NZ embassy for certainty.

I neglected to mention that if you don't yet have your PR card, when you leave Canada, you will have to apply for a travel document at the Canadian embassy in NZ in order to re-enter Canada. It can take 2 months and more to get your PR card once you land in Canada, so plan accordingly. One option is to have your PR card mailed to a friend's house, and have the friend send it to you in NZ by courier. But what if it doesn't arrive in time? Then you still need the travel document, and you need to apply for a new PR card.

If all this possible hassle is daunting, consider delaying your travel plans.
