Hi,

I completed B.Tech (Bio-Technology) in 2011 and since I had been working in IT industry as content writer and/or SEO. Can I apply for Master degree in Biotechnology in Canada? Would the visa officer approve the visa with 5 years gap?

I got my BA (bachelor of administration) with a major in Management Information Systems degree in 2003. In 2012 I applied for a master in systems design, I got the offer of admission on 2013 and applied for my visa, it took around 3 months for them to process it without any problems.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!

Did you have work experience irrelevant to your study?
In my case, my work exp. was not related to study and now I want to join Master program after 5 years and hence want to know if there may not be any issue for visa processing.

You can still apply even if you don't have the relevant work experience. But that's up to the university not to CIC to accept, if you get the offer of admission the only thing you have to show CIC is :

- Ties with your country in order to show them that you will return after you program is over (Real State, Family, Job Letters, etc), even if you want to stay in Canada after graduation.
- Proof of funds for you and your dependents for at least a year.
- Offer of admission to the University of your choice.

For the university you have to send them a strong Statement of Interest explaining them the reason of your choice of study field. Biotech is still related to IT, so all you have to do is to show them how it can relate to your case. You can send the same SOI to CIC as an additional document just for your peace of mind.
