Canada Soft Landing - Opening bank from US

Hi,

I'm looking at the ScotiaBank Startright program for newcomers. But when I go to apply for an account, I don't see an option to apply from the US.

Do they not allow people living in the US (I've an Indian passport) to apply remotely?

Any other option I have to get a bank account before I go?

Why do you need one? For soft landing, you don't need to do anything. Some people have mentioned that opening a bank account may qualify as financial ties and require you to file Canadian taxes (I highly doubt that opening an account alone will do that).
