On a visa you are at the mercy of employer. If you lose employment you have to exit the country. With a PR you have the right to stay and look for another job. Choose wisely the one that offers you better opportunities, benefits and life style for you and family.ICanadian123 said:

Now if you have a US GC, I don't see any advantage to Canada vs USA. I have seen others make arguments for Canada politically and on security, but I don't think they are that big an advantage. Both are great countries for immigrants and US will always hold the edge due to its economic prowess.
I have decided to move to Canada as I need the freedom to do anything rather than having restricted H1 for another 5 years.

If you are from India, China and Mexico, you will have to wait for some time before you get the GC. This is because only a fixed number of GCs are allowed per country and there is a queue that you need to get in when you apply.TrackIT said:
Depending on your profile, you will have a longer queue within the group. There are 3 buckets and the approximate waiting times for Indians are:
1. EB1 - If you have a Ph D - Around 1 year
2. EB2 - If you masters and have good experience - Around 5-6 years
3. EB3 - Others - 10 to 12 years.
All number of years above are from my memory. But the structure is the same for all countries. You can google and find current waiting times.
