Hi guys, hope you could help me with this.

My husband's PR card expired late last year. He applied for renewal months before his card expired but until now, cic hasn't released his new PR card.

His application for PR card renewal has been in process for more than a year already (imagine that!) but we've learned that it just usually takes about 2-3months to renew.

Because of the delay in his PR renewal, we haven't seen each other for over a year! But he really wants to come home to the Philippines to visit me.

Here are my questions:
1. Can my husband exit Canada without a valid PR card?
2. How can he return to Canada without a valid PR card? I read somewhere that you have to apply for a travel document.
3. Does anyone here know the processing time for a travel document in the Philippines?

Of course, they don't check anything to do with PR status when leaving Canada.

Yes he will need a PR TD to board a flight back to Canada. As long as he meets the residency obligation, he should get it no problem.

Not sure the time but here is the link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/travel-document/

It's usually quickest if you can go to a visa office in person to apply for and get the PR TD, instead of mailing your passport and waiting for them to process and mail it back to you.
