Hi,

Can anyone please help,

We need to reply to procedural fairness letter for Ckd for my dad. He is stable in good condition. No dialysis. Kidney doctor said less than 40% chance that dialysis will be required in next five years. But still as mitigation plan can we buy insurance for next five years just to satisfy CIC.

Please reply.

Thank you so much for replying in advance

I don't think any insurance plan will cover dialysis this since his kidney issue is a pre-existing condition. Also, once he is a PR, you can easily cancel the insurance and let him use the provincial health care system - so I'm not sure this is a good argument for the procedural fairness letter.

Any suggestions from you, I mean good points that can be used?

Typically you want to prove that the care the person needs does not exceed the threshold. In other words, if all of the care they require is delivered through Canada's health care system - it will fall below the threshold. So it's not about paying for it yourself or through an insurer - it's about showing the level of care/expenses assessed by IRCC is too high.

Hi,

Thanks so much for replying.

CIC saying that of dialysis will be required it will be around 77k per year for dialysis. We got letter from doctor saying he is improving and there’s very little chance in next two years and less than 40% chance in next five years. How do we explain that it won’t be 77k, I googled and cost in Canada for dialysis comes around 60k per annum at least, how do we fight about that, please give your opinion and if you have any suggestions.

Please help

Thanks so much

The costs of dialysis are high in Canada. There's no way to prove they will be low. What you are trying to prove is that your father won't need dialysis at all for the next 5-10 years.

Kidney specialist wrote less than 20% chance in next two years and less than 40% chance in next five years.

How can we say there won’t be need at all according to my dad’s number if doctor wrote less than 40% how can we say it will be 0%

I am sorry for bothering you so much and I really appreciate your replies

Thank you so much

40% is actually pretty high. I would imagine the percentage would be even higher after 5 years. That is just dialysis not medication, appointments, surgery to put in lines, possible hospitalizations, etc.

I am in similar situation, Can I please speak with you over the phone?
Every person’s health is individual. If their kidney function is high enough to realistically avoid dialysis is the only way to get approved. The test results and progression of the kidney disease are the real issues.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a form of dialysis that can be done at home. It requires a minor surgery where they put a bag in your belly and then you fill it with a fluid. All you gotta do is change the fluid after 6 hours 2-3 times a day. You can do it under little or no supervision. The fluid that is used to perform the exchange is not that expensive either. I wonder if this can work for someone who requires dialysis and can visit a loved one in Canada regardless of worrying about pre-existing dialysis condition and the costs. Anyone has experience of something like this?

Obviously not being a medical professional or informed but a quick Google seems to imply that PD is approx two thirds cost of dialysis so in theory still above the annual threshold if Google to be believed. If the fluid has to be changed 2-3 times a day every 6 hours the question to be asked if on a long flight how will that work, a quick trip to the restroom I guess ? Plus given fluid/liquid restrictions on flights that probably has to be managed as well. If only on a visit for example how practical to bring any supply even limited along or have to get a prescription filled on arrival not an easy task.

Just a few questions for discussion nothing more

My doctor told me that one can fly without issues provided the fluid is not in the belly. The exchange process can be done after you land. The supply is a question mark but I am sure there will be vendors locally in Canada and if not it can be imported. In Hong Kong 80% of the dialysis patients are on dialysis means there is ample options in the market to be explored. Someone told me the fluid is cheap from Germany, as low as $3 per liter (not confirmed) and you require about 1.5-2L at one time. Moreover, it's obvious that a treatment option done at home will definately be much cheaper compared to something done at the hospital. I seek information about the fluid though, would appreciate if someone shares his experience in Canada
