Thanks Boven2012. I also noticed you quote 2121 as your NOC code and that's what I am gonna do too, because I don't think the duties under 4011 (postdoc fellow) fit my work very much, but my specialty 2113 fits much better.

Hope yours is going fine and wish guys here all the best with their CECs!

Got one more question, how did you deal with your pay stubs? I am on the direct deposit and every month NSERC sent me an email notification showing only the monthly salary and that's all. I sent email to ask they say it is our stub... I am not sure if I should print them out....

This is a classic problem with NSERC fellows, i just printed my 6 month pay-stubs (e-mail) and sent along with my application.

Hey guys, I am not sure about one question when filling the forms.

I am a postdoc and I want to use the NOC under my subject I say 2113 'oceanographer' but not 4011 as a postdoc. So what title I should write in the 'Current occupation' box in IMM008, 'activity' in Personal history in IMMM5669 (backgroud dec), and 'occupation' in schedule 8?

Should I fill with 'oceanographer' in each box and avoid to use postdoctoral fellow? I think the three boxes should be with the same title. and Boven, how did you do that?

My offer says I am employed as a postdoctoral fellow, thus in my supervisor's reference letter he also mentions i am a post-doc, but he also mentions my research field is oceanography, and my duties listed matches 2113 as an oceanographer very much. Is it good enough to use oceanographer?

Thanks aki and boven. but I remember you used the NOC 21xx, is that ok you fill the occupation name with postdoc while followed by the code 21xx ? I'm confused..

I would be better to use 'working as a postdoctoral fellow in oceanograpy, and you can use subject specific NOC code rather than general 4011

Hi boven2012

I also applied under 2121, did you get your medical

well thats a good idea! thanks chandn.

I am postdoc form University of Toronto, with T4A (applied at Feb 2013, my status is still "Application Received").
I know some postdocs from UofT who were accepted, and some postdocs who were rejected basing on T4A (in general, T4A is for self-employment and scholarships). This is because some immigration officer do not know about our situation and made wrong decisions.

There are different definitions of employee. According to work definition (not taxation!), postdocs are employee, since: (1) we work full-time, (2) we use University equipment, (3) we are forbidden to work outside the University. Therefore, postdocs are eligible for CEC program. I wrote something like this in my cover letter, and I ask my referees to write it for me. I also wrote that many other Canadian universities had already switched to T4 taxation policies. (I can send an example if someone is interested).

If you are planning to include your contract to your application, read it carefully before doing this, may be it has something that can look suspicious for immigration officer (if you have T4A). And this is not mandatory to include your contract.

You can also write that Ontario Labour Relations Board determined that postdoctoral fellows should be considered as full-time employees within the meaning of the Labour Relations Act. You can ask for more details CUPE: http://cupe3902.org
