Can non-accompanying dependents attend school while visiting PR Parents in CDA?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I have PR and we're living in Canada. Can my daughter (from a previous marriage who was listed as non-accompanying on our PR app.) attend high school in Canada while she waits for her sponsorship application to be approved. She has a 6 month visitor visa. Would she need a study permit?

You'll need to speak with your local school. Sometimes they'll allow a sponsored dependent to attend school without a study permit. Other times they require a study permit and foreign student tuition payments. Unfortunately there's no standard answer.

Just to clarify... her sponsorship is pending and we hope to have a response from CIC in 12 months or so...does that detail change your answer at all?

No - it doesn't. She's not a PR yet - you need to check with the individual school she plans to attend.
