Hey guys, need some help. I am canadian and have decided to move back from portugal. My daughter's canadian citizenship card hasn't come through yet and it will still take several months before i get it. But i want to go this summer so that she can start school in september. The thing is even though everyone says that two way tickets are cheaper that is not the case. One way from portugal to toronto is €350 and two way is €650. So i was wondering if anyone can tell me if we will have a problem with both of us having a one way ticket only. My husband will be with us but he will have a two way as we will start the sponsorship application upon arrival there. So she will have his permission to go with me.

That's it, hope someone can answer my query. I was told from the canadian embassy here in lisbon that the problem would be at the lisbon airport. but she is canadian by law so i don't understand the problem. and they know that her citizenship application is being processed.

Thanks

The problem people are referring to is with the airlines.

Your daugher is not traveling on a Canadian passport. And without a Canadian citizenship card (or PR card), the airline has no way of knowing or finding out what her status is in Canada. They may refuse to let her fly if she only has a one way ticket. The reason why they may do this is that they do not want to be responsible for playing for her flight home in the event Canada does not let her in.

So the barrier isn't Canadian law, it's airline policy.
