Hi,

I recently became a Canadian citizen and am applying for my first Canadian passport.

The Passport Canada website lists “foreign passport” as an acceptable identity document.
My question is specific to Indian passports:

Can an Indian passport be used as the identity document when applying for a new Canadian passport, even though India does not allow dual citizenship and the passport is no longer valid for travel after the oath?

I already have my Canadian citizenship certificate, so this question is only about the ID requirement, not proof of citizenship.

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Ps- I renewed my BC drivers license and yet not have received it after 3 weeks and need to travel urgently.

I don't have an exact answer to your question, but I was in the same boat where I changed me address but didn't receive my new card in the mail. I used my provincial health card though, and they accepted it.

Yes, you can use your Indian passport for the Canadian passport application.

-Canada doesn't care about your foreign citizenships (basically).
-Your relations with the Indian government (and responsibilities to it) are basically your own.

Hi - were you able to apply for Canadian passport with Indian passport? I am in the same situation, expired Insurance/DL, renewal will take a month. Can I just show them my Indian Passport and apply?

See the answer right above yours.
Canada doesn't care about the specifics of Indian citizenship laws, and as such, has no problems with you using the Indian passport as an ID.
