I was born to a Canadian immigrant and thus have citizenship. I have a citizenship card but I am a baby in the picture.

I would like to work in Canada but am trying to figure out if I need to get a new citizenship certificate or if I can just got for a passport.

Any help is appreciated!

As far as I know, the old card itself doesn't cancel your status. That is, if you're already a citizen or PR, the issue is more about supporting documents and access to work (SIN, etc.) than the "validity" of the old card itself. But in practice, a lot depends on what exactly you have and the requirements of the employer/IRCC in your specific situation. Sometimes people have successfully completed all the procedures even with outdated documents; the main thing is to confirm their status. Incidentally, I've sometimes come across useful discussions and practical examples on similar immigration and adaptation issues here: https://winnipegtrapandskeet.com/ it might be useful for someone as an additional source of information/contacts in Canada.
