I'm a dependent of a temporary foreign worker, which allows me to stay in Canada as long as their work permit is valid. Can I work for non-Canadian clients through websites like Upwork while residing in Canada with a visitor record? I'm aware that for tax purposes I'm a resident of Canada, I just need to know if the visitor record allows me to gain an income through online work or if I need to apply for another kind of permit.

As long as you are not doing any work for any people in Canada and you are being paid outside of Canada, you can work online.
