I just received permanent residency, but haven't received my PR card yet, and was just notified my photo was rejected. I'm planning on visiting family in the US over Christmas, and I was wondering if I can just use my US passport, or if I need to get a temporary travel document in case my PR card hasn't arrived by December.
Can I use my existing US passport to visit family?

Assuming you have no other issue (misrepresentation, residency obligation, criminal record, etc), this is completely fine.
US citizens are eTA and visa exempt, so they can fly into Canada from wherever in the world, and the airline would let them board, simply by having US passports.

Use your US passport. I had two different CBSA agents tell me not to bother them with filing for a PRTD if I went back to the US to visit before getting my PR Card. Even now, I use my US Passport to get into Canada and the officer still says "Welcome home."
