Hi,

First of all, thanks for the time you spend on reading my question. I do really appreciate all replies :) .

- Me and my spouse, moved to Canada in Jan 2018 because of my job.
- In 2020 we got our PR.
- Now with things more stable, we would like to bring my step children, a boy and a girl both under 18 years old, to live with us.

My question, as title says: Can I sponsor my wife's children (my step children) to live with us ?

Were your step children desclared as non-accompanying and had their medical exams done? (btw definitation of dependents are under 22 years old.)

Did you and your spouse landed under the same application? If so, you did not sponsor your spouse. You both became a PR under an economic stream.

Yes, they were both declared as non-accompanying, and also had their medical exam done at the time as well. I believe their medical exam are valid until August 2024.

Yes, we did land under the same application. I believe you are correct on your statement :).

In this case, I think it's your wife is who can sponsor her children. I have never heard of medical that is valid for more than 3 years. You may need to double check that.

Check out discussion on sponsoring dependents. There are many active discussions.

Thanks for clarifying. I just double checked, and the medical exam says: Issue Date: 21-Aug-2019 and Expire Date: 21-Aug-2024

Can you point me out the link ? Sorry Im quite new to this forum, and not yet acquainted with all sections.

Btw, if it is my wife that is going to sponsor her children and I am going to co-sign: Is it a problem if her income is low ? I mean, she has probably a bit more than a minimum wage, and vast majority of the house income comes from my salary.

Won't be a problem.

This discussion has some interesting information. (child custody and permission from the other parent of the children)

I think if your combine income can support the children, it should be OK. I do not have personal experince on sponsoring children, so I will wait for other members to answer the rest of your questions.

Take a look at the forms and checklist for country specific information. Some of the forms are shared for different type of immigration so it may be confusing. Refer to the guide, document checklist and the application forms.

1. Your wife, their mother sponsors them, you co-sign the application
