Hello everyone!
5 years ago I arrived in Canada with my family as an asylum claimant. In 2021 we were accepted as protected people and in December of 2023, we became permanent residents.
A close friend of mine has been found with a degenerative illness and she cannot travel therefore for me to meet with her the only possibility would be to go back home. Is there a way I can renounce to my protected person status but keeping my PR card? I know it is possible to apply for cessation of protected person status but I do not know if it puts at risk my PR. Also in case I apply for cessation is there a possibility to put my family's PR status in danger?
Thank you.
