Can I re-apply for PR which expired through spouse who is a PR staying in Canada?

Hi,
A friend of mine and his spouse did landing in Canada years ago, then he left Canada and his PR expired but his wife has stayed in Canada with her PR still active.
Can his wife sponsor him through a new PR application?

PR status does not expires. You don’t loose your PR status.
You have to go through a formal process to renunce it or for it to be revoked

As noted, he's still a PR. He can renounce and his wife sponsor him anew.

There may be other preferable options depending on specifics of the case, of course.

Would add that the spouse remained a tax resident and was required to file taxes while his family was in Canada.
