I am a little bit too far from AB's border (around 6 hours drive one way) and I do not want to wait for another month for the office to call me, so I am planning to fly to vancouver, meet friends and ask them to drive me to the border.

is it possible?

Yes you can. If you are Provincial Nominee, you might have to show your onward journey to the province that nominated you, otherwise the CBSA officer and refuse to do your landing.

I do have nomination but I am through EE. How about this case?

It's risky as there have been cases on this forum where nominees have went to 'landed' in different provinces and been refused PR. For the sake of 6 hours, I certainly wouldn't risk it.

6 hours one way 12 hours round trip +1 hour =13 hours.. the whole day is gone..

I am not a PNP though.

Well if you are sure you are not using it, I don't really know why you mentioned it. If you are just normal PR and not a nominee you can land anywhere.
