Here on IEC visa which expires in October, and have applied for CEC as a common law partner.

Can I also apply for a temporary work permit while the CEC application is being processed? I'm worried the IEC visa will expire before the CEC application gets approved, so am wanting to approach my employer about getting an LMIA, closed work permit, etc.

Thanks!

If you are a CLP and co-applicant on a CEC application, you may be eligible for an open work permit. But October is a long way away, and you haven't said when you submitted your CEC application, or whether you have received the AOR (acknowledgement of receipt).

At this point, with a CEC application pending, the only benefit I can see in getting the LMIA is, "insurance" - in case the previous application is refused. With an LMIA and offer of permanent employment, you would have a very high chance of success under the express entry program.
