LANDED..........
I'm Dreaming of July/2015
Dear All /Leon the Mighty :D

I plan to land in Toronto and stay for a month and come back , During my landing i intend to give a PR address in Edmonton of friends of us .

Also i Intend to come back to Edmonton after a couple of months as my wife would settle there to give birth ( Thanks to Leon , I already know she should stay for 6 /12 months )

My question are the following and I would be really grateful if somebody who is sure could answer

1- Is there a problem giving a PR address of Edmonton even if i don't intend to go to that city in the first landing ?

2- If i Don't apply for health card at Ontario , would it be possible to apply for Alberta health care upon our 2nd landing at edmonton and get insurance from first day ( this is really important as my wife would be at late pregnancy ) ??
or I should Waite for 3 months because i would be considered moving from TORONTO ?

3- Regarding SIN , do you advise I apply for it at toronto when i land or its better to postponed it till next visit when we settle permenantly in Edmonton and apply for health card with SIN together

4- If I open a bank account At TAD or SCoti at Toronto upon landing , would it be easy to change the address of my bank upon 2nd landing in Edmonton and get a ( BANKS STATEMENT with my Edmonton address on it right away ) ,,, or i would have to open a New account in Edmonton .

Thanks all for your Help , I couldnt make it to here without this wonderful forum

It will be better if you land in Edmonton for a month and return. By doing this, you will get a feel of the city and get acquainted with it, which will be very useful for you when you return to Edmonton for good.

Thank Rawdeh for your answer , but lets consider i dont travel to the west side of canada , does those points i mentioned are legal or not?

thanks

I too have to get answers for the question being asked by you.
Please let me know the answers once you have it. Would be thankful to you. Thanks

1. Shouldn't be a problem as long as there is someone there to receive the card.

2. This one could be tricky, and you might be better served contacting Alberta health directly (780-427-1432). From what I read, provided you didn't apply for any health coverage in another province, you should be able to get benefits from day 1 of your arrival in Alberta (please look at the application form at http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/forms.html). BUT, you and your dependents need to physically be in Alberta for at least 183 days in a 12-month period, otherwise there can be clawback of any benefits awarded. Please also note the documentation requirements as a lot of these things are not easily available for at least 30 days with the exception of a rent/lease agreement.

3. I don't think the location of the SIN application will affect your application for health coverage.

4. Your home branch will always be the one where you opened your account. If you move, you can request for your file to be transferred to a bank closer/convenient to you, but the codes/routing numbers etc will always be for the branch where you opened your account.

In our case, for example, we landed in Toronto in Jan 2011, went back to our home country and then returned to Manitoba when I got a job. The Manitoba health coverage was effective on the date we arrived (confirmed via tickets, hotel booking, job offer letter etc). I would think (and you should confirm) that this will apply in your case as well.

Thanks a million buddy and plus one to you , could you please tell me how long you stayed at toronto the first time of landing ?

also does opening a bank account in toronto upon my first landing is easy without having a permanant address ( i will only have a hotel address )

thanks

We stayed for a week. I would advise against using a hotel address, and I am doubtful that a bank would be ok using a hotel address - though others may chime in if they have had a different experience.

Unless there are other mitigating factors at your end, I would recommend landing in Edmonton vs Toronto - it would resolve all of your questions/concerns.
