Can I continue working for my U.S. employer if I move to Canada?

I have received an ITA through the EE Federal Skilled Workers Program. If I were to receive PR and move to Canada, could I continue to be employed by my US employer (but as a contractor)? If yes, then what are the tax implications? Would I have to pay double taxes?

Thanks steaky! Your reply made me realize, I should've specified that I would be working for my US employer remotely while living in Canada the entire time. Would this be allowed? What would be the tax implications? Would I be able to receive maternity leave benefits?
