Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone here will be able to answer this question, I looked up information on official CIC website and this forum but didn't find a definitive answer anywhere.

I used to study at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver towards a Bachelor's degree that I didn't finish, I have 80+ credits there (I called the university, credits are still valid and can be transferred to another institution).

I am not able to come to Canada now and continue my education there but I found an accredited online institution (Athabasca university) with a 3 year General Bachelor's Degree (it's on the list of DLI institutions and it's graduates are eligible for PGWP which as I've read on this forum means that it should be recognized towards education points in Express Entry).

But my question is, if I transfer credits that I previously earned at Simon Fraser to Athabasca (they allow transfer of up to 60 credits out of 90 credits required for a degree). So if I transfer 45+ credits, then get this online Bachelor's degree, technically I should be eligible to claim additional points in Express Entry for Canadian education? And maybe even PGWT? Since I would have been physically present in Canada for at least half of this degree?

It says on the official CIC website that "you had to be enrolled full time for at least eight months, and have been physically present in Canada for at least eight months". I also found information that if you received an online degree then at least 50% of the courses have to be done in Canada and not online. But I think this last requirement is for provincial nominations and to claim extra points for Canadian education studying in Canada for 8 months would suffice.

Can please someone tell me if I am correct about this and if I will be able to claim extra points for Canadian education in Express Entry and apply for PGWP?

(I saw @scylla answering a lot of questions in a very knowledgeable way here on this forum, could you please let me know your thoughts on my situation?)

Thank you in advance!
Kate
