Thats correct. His kids are in Sri Lanka. It was just a trip to see family that he has not seen in many years.
i will ask him to apply again when he has more funds.

As in the other post consider the context matters. We are talking about family inviting this person to visit them in Canada so clearly not referring to his children.

Clearly you asked me the question and so based on what the poster said, the kids are in Sri Lanka.

1. make sure you have more funds.
2. make sure you have better ties in home country, a job, family members, property, etc. You need to document these ties and include them in your application by writing a explanation letter.
3. have some travel history.

Applying under tourism or family visit doesnt effect the outcome. your circumstances does effect the decision.
