Hello all!

I am not currently residing in Canada, but I am planning to apply for Express Entry. Based on my professional experience, I believe that NOC 32120 (Medical Laboratory Technologist) most accurately reflects my work history. However, my academic background is in Microbiology, not in Medical Laboratory Science or Technology, and I am concerned that this discrepancy may pose an issue.

Would IRCC potentially reject my application on this basis? My job responsibilities correspond closely with the lead statement and main duties outlined under NOC 32120, though my educational background aligns more closely with NOC 21110 (Biologists and related scientists).

I understand that I will need to obtain certification and licensing in Canada before being able to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, but my intention is to pursue these requirements after obtaining permanent residence.

Has anyone had experience applying under similar circumstances? Is it permissible to select the NOC of a regulated profession prior to receiving Canadian certification?

Thank you in advance for your guidance and insights

Your job letters must match the NOC, not education. Are you licensed in your country? You need to check licensing requirements as your background, education and work experience may not be accepted. Think you have to be in Alberta too. So you may get ITA and PR but not able to practice until you retake a Canadian program.

What makes you say that the background, educatyand work experience may not be accepted? Could you elaborate kindly?

Read the link and the steps to be licensed. I don't know your school, work experience and foreign MLT license and whether it is transferable. You have to figure out if you are eligible, and you would have made contact with CSMLS already to understand the steps.

I understand your point and I'm willing to take all necessary steps to get licensed once I get the PR, but is it okay to opt for this NOC for now considering that it matches best with my work experience?

As I said, if you job experience matches the NOC you can use it. Do research now on licensing because you may not get it. Don't wait until PR.
