my spouse is PR. my work permit expired.
thanks

Once you get AIP stage, you can then apply for OWP online. The fact that your spouse is PR has no bearing on your ability to apply for OWP.

Had you submitted your OWP with your PR application at same time, you would have been able to continue working on "implied status" past your work expire date, assuming it was not an IEC or PGWP.

Only if you applied Inland, not Outland. First step for Inland is currently 11 months so you'll be not working for a while, unless you can get a work visa some other way.

As mentioned, I assumed they applied inland as the OP's nick is StayinCanada and also assuming the OP knows that OWP is only available for those applied inland.

Ah, just wanted to make sure!

No problem. But thanks for reminding me. Sometimes I overlooked something and make an suggestion not pertaining to the OP's situation.

Yes I should have spelled out the two situations explaining it more in details like "only available inland application. But sometimes I just get too tired or lazy to write the same message over and over. LOL.

OP applied for PR through CEC (not spousal sponsorship) and doesn't qualify for an OWP.

what will happen to me if my work permit expires, which is on aug. 2015...before i receive the AIP? And I have not included my OWP application in my INLAND sponsorship application, so I have to wait for AIP. I just mailed today july 10, 2014...I start to feel worry now because the processing time for step one is currently 12 months....

Can I still remain in Canada after my work permit expires while waiting for the approval?

since you did not submit an open work permit with your application, you will need to extend your stay as a visitor to maintain legal status during the process. during this time you will not be able to work, since you are a "visitor". generally pr applicants request a 12 month extension, and they are rarely denied. if your work permit expires in august, then it's suggested you apply for an extenion NOW. It's usually recommended to apply at least 30 days prior to the current visa expiring.
