Hi Guys,

I applied for a PR renewal and my file was transferred to the local office in July 2013.
I had about 650 days in Canada and 800 days outside Canada accompanying a Canadian spouse.
I was told that the wait time now is 24 months for the Ottawa local office to process the file.
My job requires frequent travel - about 1 week every month and I cannot travel now.
Can I apply for a TD from within Canada while waiting for the PR application to be processed?

Thanks,

Sam

1. You can apply while in Canada to an overseas Canadian visa post..they will want to have your passport at some point to endorse the TD. A TD is good for a 1 time entry so this strategy won't work with your travel plans...some visa posts want to see you in person for interviews or there can be long delays in processing.

2. If you are visitor visa exempt citizenship to Canada e.g. US/ most EU then just travel back and forth with your national passport. You will have to deal with Secondary inspection each time and airline check in agents who refuse boarding if you are travelling to Canada on a 1 way ticket or the return leg of a round trip ticket....they don't know you are a PR so if you get bounced at the border the law says they pay to return you home.

Thanks Msafiri.
Do you know if a multiple (or limited but to more than 1) entry TD is possible?

No - TD is a one time only document as per immigration law. Giving out multiple entry TDs defeats the objective which is to examine residency obligation at each TD application..sorry no dice!
