Can being a reference in Cash Advance negatively affect me?

I keep getting a phone call from Cash Advance stores where a friend of mine put me as a reference apparently without asking me. Can this negatively affect me or am I just being paranoid? I currently have a pr application submitted through Buffalo office. So anything like this bothers me a lot. What would you advise?

Sorry to hear that. As long as you did not consent in any way(signed documents, etc) to being a reference tell them exactly that and ask them to cease and desist. It is harassment if they continue to call you.

I don't think it will affect your pr application and without proof that you agreed to it, I don't see how they have a leg to stand on. If you are still concerned, seek legal advice and may be a good letter from a lawyer will do the trick.

Lastly, where is this so called friend who got you into this mess?

Thank you for your reply! I think it's the procedure in such places to get an emergency contact in case they can't find the person they start contacting this reference person. I told them not to call me anymore and also told my friend that he/she should ask me first before giving out my name.
