I would like to inquire about the following situation:
An applicant received approval for his work permit application for 2 year employment contract through an LMIA. The applicant has now received a Passport Request Letter in order to send his passport to his nearest VAC in order to get his visa issued. The applicant's passport is set to expire at the end of 2022 so the visa issued won't be for more than his passport's expiry date.
Can the applicant go and renew his passport and send in his NEW passport along with the passport request letter, his "OLD" passport, and a letter of explanation in order for the visa office to issue his visa on the new passport as opposed to the "old" one so that way he receives the "full validity" of his visa and work permit to avoid extending the work permit at the end of 2022? Does the applicant need to contact IRCC in advance before sending in his documents for approval of his request or can he just send both passports and an explanation letter?
