Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
My organization (office) is giving me a hard time saying that they will contact university (they have my offer letter) and cancel my visa as I am leaving the office at middle of session. Can they do this? Has something like this happened before?

That sounds extremely illegal!

how did they get your offer letter? did you give it to them? and why? is it the original or just a copy?

Yes, I had to give them, as they were asking for it before accepting my resignation. It's just a copy.

that just sounds like the rantings and empty threats of an idiot with a small you-know-what!

The fact that this person said they will contact university to cancel visa means that they don't know shit! Visa can only be cancelled by the CIC.

Also, since it's just a copy I wouldn't worry about it.

Is this your manager making these threats or someone from the HR department?

It's just a copy, and they are threatening to contact university with e-mail (as it has my student number and all) with an objection letter (that's the term they used). I am just worried if university will contact CIC in any case.

unless you are breaking a contract with them, they can't object

It's the director, I am kind of breaking the contract by leaving early, but at the same time I am ready to compensate, but they are still threatening me.

oh you mean you're not fulfilling your notice period?

Well you will have to amicably resolve that. It is a legal contract after all. Convince them that you HAVE to go and attend university.

I don't think they will actually do something about it

I am trying my best, but for instance, I could not reach an agreement, can they contact the university and do something about my issued visa? is it even possible? I am just a little worried, you never know.

They can't do that. Even if they do, the university will ONLY accept and reply to emails coming directly from you for confidentiality reasons. They can't just email the company and cancel your admission, the request should come directly from your side. (Otherwise anyone can just cancel a person's admission right?)

If the company can provide details regarding your identity, educational degree and the contact you disobeyed to the CIC then it might be a serious issue. It will create issue of law which you are avoiding. So make negotiation ASAP.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Unless you've broken other rules, they can just tell your university that you broke contract. And the possibility of your university taking any action without contacting you is very small. And the possibility of them asking CIC to cancel your visa is even less.

That being said, I would try to resolve it amicably.

in ur home country is it legal to break the contract? if yes then University wont care what ever ur organization says unless its a government organization. Ur only problem is u will lose the job experience during PR process as u would need a letter from ur employer other than that i dont see any issue. visa can only be cancelled by CIC(changed to IRCC now). University can notify IRCC if u do not attend classes and r not registered . In short university notifies IRCC of ur progress it wont report issues with ur employer, again, unless ur employer is not a foreign government

Seems obvious to me contact the University and instruct them to only deal with you, which I am sure they would only anyway. Inform them that nobody is authorised to act on your behalf whatever anybody says to them or appears to make out they have your authority to act. As another poster has said this may in future become an issue when applying for PR if you need a work reference but for now keep the university informed.
