CAN A VISA FOR ENTRY BE EXTENDED?

We just received the VISA and they only give us one month to pack up and go to Canada... like that's insane. We are a family and pretty much need to get an appartment to move IN to... and work..
Is it possible to hire a lawyer to get this extended??!!!

Do you mean COPR landing date?

If you are referring to COPR landing date, then no. It generally coincides with the expiry of the medical (this is nothing new so it shouldn't be surprised).

They won't extend it because you feel like you don't have enough time.

If you missed the landing date you will have to reapply from scratch.

You can do a soft landing - you don't need to move on that date.

That's not quite accurate. You have a month to go to Canada and complete the landing formalities. You can immediately return to your own country and arrange to settle at a more convenient time. Use it, or lose it.

One month is pretty extreme. They gave us 6 and I thought that was too soon.
Your only option is to do a soft landing. We will be doing one next month. You just go to Canada to go through the immigration process. Then you can come straight back if you want.
We're making a holiday out of it to look for jobs and whatnot and we're staying two weeks.
After you do the initial soft landing you can move to Canada at your leisure. As long as you're sticking to the requirements (living there for three of five years or something similar) then you can take your time.

I hope you can manage a trip in a month!

If you manage a soft landing before the COPR expires you can leave back to your home country and then have near 3 years to move permanently as long as you accumulate 2 years in Canada out of initial 5 years from landing.

As sure you may know you will need a Canadian address for your PR card to be sent to for a friend or family member to courier it to you in your home country else you will need to get PRTDs at cost to be able to fly back to Canada when you are ready. Unfortunately the COPR date is a use it or lose it so the date you have may be based on the validity of the medical expiring.

They have stuck a paper inside his passport and he had to pick it up at the visa office in NYC. Here I see '' your visa is now affixed to your passport'' But then later it says ''If your passport is from a visa exempt country, you were not issued a Permanent Resident visa, only a CoPR''...

His passport is Cuban and the Validity of this sticker sayis until June 26 2018.

There is also a CoPR form that need a signature when he's at the border and also says valid to june 26 2018

We are worried because we are also in the process of getting his american citizenship done. (it would have been done on time but the post office kept losing his mail) And now we are surprised at how fast it is going for my sponsorship for him and now we feel we have to scrap our plans of going to Canada in order to save his citizenship here.

So if we can do the soft landing as suggested that could really help us finalize everything?! Or it's scrap?

Unless there is a complete embargo on him leaving the USA for any reason, or the USA won't let him reenter, the simplest solution is to drive up to the land border at Niagara or somewhere close to you. He walks across to the Canadian side, completes his "landing" procedure and then walks back to the USA border. You then drive back home again.

If doing this, be mindful that the Niagara crossings generally don't like people landing during their busy times (Friday-Monday), and prefer you come on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 8am and 8pm.

This is usually for flagpoling, and not for those relocating from the US, but considering the fact the OP is doing a time-sensitive soft landing, perhaps best to keep the CBSA officers happy. CBSA would probably be hard-pressed to not complete the landing if the OP did show up during a busy period; but they should be prepared to potentially have to wait a long time.

CBSA will not refuse someone coming from outside of Canada to land. The restriction is for those who are flag-poling.
