My work permit expires in about a week and I'm applying to get it extended as a visitor visa today. Yeah I know, I'm applying late but lots of stuff came up which made this happen. Anyway, my boyfriend and I are planning to visit my family in October for my birthday and we were wondering if anyone here knew if US citizens can get a multiple entry visa so it would be easier for us to come back to Canada together and wait out the PR process. By the time we'd be back, he'd have been approved as a sponsor and hopefully we wouldn't have to wait too much longer for my PR. The only thing I really have proof of for ties to the US is that all my family and the majority of my friends live there. Also I was just recertified for my certification as a pharmacy technician and it's only good in the US and I've applied to a few jobs down there in case I don't get an extension. Not sure if this would be enough though, and I'm not sure if I can geta multiple entry visa or do I need to get two different ones. One for now, and one for when I come back.

Americans are visa-exempt, which means you don't require or get visas to enter Canada. Your admissibility is assessed at the border on each entry attempt, same as a person holding a visa, but with a lower threshold. So if you extend your visitor status now, and leave Canada, you will be re-assessed on your next entry. Even having a visa would not guarantee you could re-enter Canada, no visa carries such a guarantee.

Yeah I know that I'm visa exempt as a US citizen. I just wanted to keep my status here legally for longer. And since I know that the visa doesn't guarantee me re-entry, I'll just ask for a regular TRV then. Thanks for the info :)
