Dear Rawdah,

Google Fraser Institute Report cards...then click on Alberta, then Calgary.

that site was quite helpful! you then have to streamline it according to the type of school you want, public school, private or separate..within these differnt groups, you will still know the best... we wanted St Phillips school but we could not get it...the school is top 5 in calgary and No 1 among all the Sepearte schools. this school is free! and believe me its competing on the high top ladder with the private schools that you have to pay so much to get ytour child in.when our kids could not get enrolled in that school because of location, my spouse and I had to visit the school physically. when we got there.. we loved it! we saw the difference! its in the far north of SE, the good area ;D and its under restricted enrollment.

we got a warm reception and the secretary actually gave us a map of the area we need to live in to authomatically get our kids in there...we took the map home and started searching for apartments online..it was not favourable! the least we got was 2,500 CAD / month and the houses there were built in the early 70(s) :p. its an old community!

you cant believe that i tried enrolling my kids online in one of the top 3 schools (private) because i got a good referral from a friend, on the last page of the forms i was aasked to pay 200 CAD NON REFUNDABLE! per child! this is not a guarantee that they will get admission! :p

one more thing! save to buy your own home! new homes are better and less issues. 5 yrs guarantee! we visited a show room in REDSTONE and it was mounth watering... my kids are still asking about that new home till date. come to think of it...the rent you pay to your landlord is what he is using to pay down his mortgage..so why not pay down your own Mortgage!

Dear Sambade,

the rent varies, where we actually stayed was a basement and we paid 1,300CAD for that 20-21 days that we stayed there. and that was in N.E. the school that they termed as our home school is far below average looking at the fraser report card! but we had to just continue cos we are there for 2 weeks. my kids walk to school though..

you cna get a mortgage if you start building your credit history immedaitely you land, but its sweeter if you have a job appointment letter..with that alone ...i dont think you really need to worry about your credit history. most banks avail mortgage to new immigarnts but it all depends on the price of home. the show room we visited in redstone was a detached house, 3 bedroom with basement, 3 bathrooms and they they said that goes for 459k CAD. if you have a 5% down payment you can get that but you need to pay insurance but if you can get at least 20% down payment ..you will not need insurance!

i also learnt its better to get a personal loan than to pick up a credit card! that both contribute to your credit history but the later entangles you for life! unless you are well descipline to pay up on time, all and dont use more than 30% of your credit limit at all times. i dont know how true that is...

Please start job hunting from where ever you are at the moment. Truly if we had known we would have started immediately we got medical request. There is no harm in trying. You can do skpe interviews ... We did some to... Connect with someone in the :D same field with you that is already working in Calgary ...use his resume and touch up yours.... Go to LinkedIn and connect with friends of friends .. It does not matter... It's either yes or No... Keep trying. I think you have a professional job at the moment( process eng)...save with vengeance !!!! Yes save with vengeance ... :D
